This June, the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou” issued by the State Council points out that education cooperation in the Greater Bay Area should be promoted stably. “Efforts should be made to improve student recruitment mechanisms of universities established in Nanshan, referring to the Independent Freshman Admission Program of Sun Yat-sen University and Jinan University, to further expand channels for the admission of students from Hong Kong and Macao.”

With the approval of the Ministry of Education, HKUST(GZ) will enroll undergraduates from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in 2023.

According to relevant documents, HKUST(GZ) is entitled to enroll students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan through the Joint Admission Examination for Overseas Chinese and students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (“Joint Admission Examination”). Specific admission requirements shall be subject to the enrollment prospectus approved and announced by relevant national authorities.

HKUST(GZ) is the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by Hong Kong and the Mainland since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”

According to the document on the approval of the formal establishment of HKUST(GZ) by the Ministry of Education, HKUST(GZ) offers undergraduate and graduate education. Admission of undergraduate students will follow the nation’s unified admission policy, while students will receive their certificates of graduation from HKUST(GZ) as well as their bachelor’s degree certificates and degree diplomas from both HKUST(GZ) and HKUST respectively according to the graduation requirements of HKUST and HKUST(GZ).
